Fym Factory maintains its virtual doors open in these next days at home, but always without giving up good music and the duality of musical genres.
Therefore, we have selected our top 5 music documentaries that can be found on streaming platforms such as Netflix or Youtube to surpass these days with the best music stories.
THE ROLLING STONES: OLÉ OLÉ OLÉ. A trip across Latin America.
This is not just another documentary about Jagger’s band and company. This is a documentary where you see the Stones explaining their journey both on and off stage during their 2016 South America tour.
The documentary shows the great company behind their satanic majesties, but above all, we can see Jagger, Richards, Wood and Wats in a day-to-day life throughout South America in an unparalleled historical and cultural context that culminates in their concert in Havana, being the first great rock band to perform in Cuba, after their eternal opening in 2016 during the mandates of Raul Castro on the island and Barack Obama in the United States.
ROBERT JOHNSON: Remastered. The Devil’s Crossroads.
Netflix, of course, has also joined in explaining legends from the history of music. The streaming platform par excellence has dedicated a series of its own documentaries called “Remastered” in which cultural episodes are told, starring artists such as Bob Marley, Johnny Cash or Sam Cooke.
In this Fym selection, we highlight the episode of “The Devil’s Crossroads” dedicated to the icon of the beginnings of blues music, Robert Johnson. Behind his mysterious (and brief) success, there is a legend that tells how Johnson, a mediocre musician, became the best guitarist of his time after giving his soul to the devil in exchange for his enormous skills with the six strings.
Robert Johnson was the creator of great blues hymns such as ‘Love in Vain‘, ‘They’re Red Hot‘ or ‘Crossroads Blues‘; and versioned by artists such as Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton or The Rolling Stones. In the documentary we can see his influences told by artists who have been inspired by him, as well as his path to fame through animations of his life, which ended at the age of 27 and in circumstances not yet clarified.
PAUL KALKBRENNER: Berlin Calling.
Paul Kalkbrenner released his hit song ‘Sky and Sand‘ through a film recorded in documentary format, in which Paul himself played the main character of the story. DJ Ickarus, the main character, is a Berliner DJ who is at a very popular moment in the industry, but he is immersed in a drug problem that makes him go to a psychiatric hospital, where he will compose his best album to date.
Obviously, the documentary is a must for all techno fans and especially for Kalkbrenner.
We can find subtitled versions on Youtube, and soon on Netflix.
RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS: “Funky Monks” Full Documentary.
As Red Hot Chili Peppers announced the return of their iconic guitarist John Frusciante in late 2019, it’s a good time to take a look back at the creative process that he and the band went through to release their greatest work with the distinctive sound of the Californians, “Blood Sugar Sex Magik”.
The documentary is recorded in a “homemade” style in which most of the film will be spent in the studio recording the takes for songs like “Under the bridge”, “Funky Monks” or “Give it Away”. But there’s also time to see the crazy and punk lifestyle that the young Red Hot were carrying on in the middle of their popularity explosion.

SWEDISH HOUSE MAFIA: Leave the World Behind. A motion picture.
After their “One Last Tour”, the Swedish trio wanted to capture the great and bad moments that any artist spends during a great world tour as it was the one that took them off stage. Axwell wanted to tell the typical story of the rock stars we see on TV, but this time with electronic music as protagonist.
And what better than with his colleagues Sebastian Ingrosso and Steve Angello, to immortalize their intragroup relationships, and see the day to day life of one of the biggest DJ bands that last summer returned with some shows to demonstrate that there is still some friendship, and above all, creativity to give to their audience.
Here we leave you the complete documentary in Spanish:
